Second Annual Women in Business Conference will feature Athena awards

The Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce will have its second annual Tri-Cities Women in Business Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 23 at TRAC in Pasco.

The one-day event, sponsored by Washington River Protection Solutions, brings corporate executives, leading business women and business owners together with women of various business experience and career levels to enhance communication and networking skills.

Attendees will engage with local experts presenting on various personal and professional topics, panel discussion and enjoy interactive exercises.

Exhibitor booths representing various Chamber members will include a variety of businesses and organizations that represent health, education, beauty, exercise opportunities and retail sales as a new component of the event. The Regional Chamber is still accepting booth registrations for the popular conference.

Again this year, the Chamber has partnered with ATHENA International to present the 2013 ATHENA Leadership Awards Luncheon as part of the conference. The luncheon, sponsored by Washington Closure Hanford, will be noon to 1:30 p.m., and two ATHENA awards will be presented to distinguished women in the community. The ATHENA awards will be presented as part of the luncheon program that will also serve as the Chamber’s regularly-scheduled Network Tri-Cities Luncheon.

Approximately 225 women attended the inaugural conference last January and 400 people attended the luncheon, where Glassybaby founder Lee Rhodes was the keynote speaker.

Paula Linnen, Pacific Northwest National laboratory’s vice president and associate lab director of organizational development and Mistee Verhulp, an attorney and partner at Smart, Connell, Childers and Verhulp, were presented with ATHENA awards.

The ATHENA awards are presented to women who exemplify professional excellence, community service and actively help other women obtain professional excellence and leadership skills.

Individual all-day tickets for the Tri-Cities Women in Business Conference are $95, which includes a luncheon ticket. Tickets to attend only the ATHENA Leadership Awards Luncheon are $20 for Regional Chamber members and $30 for non-members. The reservation deadline for the luncheon is Jan. 18. Tickets are available by calling the Chamber at 736-0510. For more information, go to
