The Queensgate area continues to grow with the announcement that a franchisee for the burger chain Five Guys Burgers & Fries plans to open a location in Vintner’s Square.

The City of Richland made the announcement on its Facebook page in February.

An official opening date has yet to be announced, but in an email City of Richland Economic Development Manager Gary Ballew said he expects the restaurant to open this summer.

The new restaurant will be at 2671 Queensgate Dr. in Vintner’s Square, in a 2,500-sq. ft. retail space next to Sally’s Beauty Supply.

“Queensgate is the major retail area for Richland,” Ballew said. “Its continued growth means more retail options for our citizens, but also increases the tax base for the City, allowing us to maintain our level of service.”

The franchise is owned by Montana Burgers, Inc.

The Virginia-based Five Guys Burgers & Fries has more than 1,000 locations in 47 states and six Canadian provinces.

According to the company’s website there are more than 250,000 ways to order a burger. The company only uses peanut oil and the menu is entirely trans-fat free.

Despite having to wait a few months for the restaurant to open, Ballew said he expects to see the franchise grow in the Tri-Cities.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Five Guys soon finds a Kennewick location,” Ballew said. “We are seeing this dual growth between Southridge and Queensgate. We had Bob’s (Burgers) and Fujiyama’s as previous examples.”
