What better way to celebrate the month of love than with a rousing revue about the mating game?!? Valley Theater Company will present five performances of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” in mid-February at the Princess Theatre.
This celebration of dating and mating takes on the truths and myths behind that magical, mystifying condition known as “the relationship.” This very funny, very adult, very musical comedy explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set.
The play unfolds through a series of vignettes and songs, including “Single Man Drought,” “Why? ‘Cause I’m a Guy,” “Always a Bridesmaid,” “Marriage Tango,” “On the Highway of Love” and “Funerals Are for Dating.”
The cast of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” includes Gene Carbaugh, Eric Endres, Madison Fortney, Joe Francik, Cliff Gamble, Kristin Lerch, Bethany Riddle, David Riddle, Kimberly Starr and Cat Warwick. Ben Macy is the pianist and Jude Noah is the violinist.
Rick James is directing the production, assisted by L.J. Da Corsi. Suzanne Kephart is the producer.
With book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, the play pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, ‘Say, what are you doing Saturday night?’
Performances are at 7:30 pm on Feb 15, 16, 22 & 23; and 2:30 pm on Feb 17. The Green Room at the Princess opens 1 hour before showtime, with local wines and microbrews available for purchase by the glass. The Theatre and Box Office open 30 minutes before showtime.
All seats are reserved; tickets are available in advance at www.ThePrincessTheatre.net and at the box office, 1230 Meade Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. All tickets must be printed to scan properly.
