Community members interested in Hanford cleanup issues are sought to fill vacant public-at-large seats on the Hanford Advisory Board.

The positions are meant to represent the views or perspectives of the public and are not directly associated with affected interests, such as local government, environmental or economic interests.

Board work collaboratively with a diverse group of people from across the Northwest to provide input on decisions related to the cleanup of:

• Nine decommissioned nuclear reactors.
• Five large radioactive chemical processing facilities.
• 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical tank waste.
• More than 65 square miles of contaminated groundwater.

Citizens interested in applying for membership are not required to have special expertise about the Hanford site. General requirements are a willingness to attend meetings, learn about Hanford cleanup plans and activities, and work with other board members to provide policy advice and recommendations to the agencies on various cleanup issues from the public’s perspective.

Board members attend four annual meetings and are encouraged to participate in subcommittee work activities taking place throughout the year. Members are not paid, but are reimbursed for travel expenses, including meals and lodging.
