Read with a Child book giveaway canceled because of smoke

September 14, 2020
TCAJOB Staff

The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia has canceled plans to distribute 2,000 books to local children this week because of hazardous air conditions.

The local nonprofit that promotes reading 20 minutes a day to young children planned to distribute books Monday in Kennewick, Tuesday and Thursday in Pasco and Wednesday in Richland.

The giveaway celebrated National Read with a Child week, Sept. 13-19.

The book program is supported by a Wildhorse Foundation grant and contributions by local McDonald's restaurants.

The book giveaway will be rescheduled but the date has not yet been set.
