Lourdes Health has named a new CEO.

Brian Sims, who most recently served as CEO of Lucas County Health Center in Iowa, will take the helm at Lourdes on Aug. 18. He has more than 17 years of executive experience and a background in rural and community hospital leadership.

Sims already is familiar with the area. Before his Iowa stint, he was the president and CEO of Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston, Oregon.

Sims is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He has a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in human resources and finance from Upper Iowa University.

“Brian’s collaborative approach and proven leadership in similar communities make him a strong fit for Lourdes Health,” said David Elgarico, market president, in a news release. “He understands the unique dynamics of rural health care and has demonstrated success in supporting clinical teams, engaging staff and improving the overall care experience.”

Sims takes on the position after former CEO Mark Holyoak left earlier this year. He took on a role as CEO of Castleview Hospital in Utah, the place he first served as a hospital CEO, on March 17.
