The Pasco School District appears to not be wasting any time in putting a narrowly-rejected levy back before voters.
The district’s board of directors voiced consensus during a special meeting Feb. 19 on putting the levy, which currently provides between $13 million to $14 million for its operations, before voters again during an April special election.
Voters rejected the four-year renewal of its Educational Programs & Operations levy with 49.73% of voters approving it. It needed 50% plus one vote to pass.
The board did not decide how much to collect from the levy if it is approved. The three scenarios presented by district staff were all below the estimated rate of $2.17 per $100,000 in assessed property value that was on the Feb. 10 ballot, with the highest being $2.08-per-$100,000 and the lowest $1.89-per-$100,000.
The board is expected to take further action at its regular meeting on Feb. 24. That is also the deadline for any district residents interested in being appointed to either the pro or con committee to write statements for the election’s voters’ pamphlet.
Those interested should send their name, address, email address, phone number and which position (pro or con) they represent to Carrie Benton, Booth Building, 1215 W. Lewis St., Pasco, WA 99301 or via email at [email protected], by Feb. 24.
