Construction on a third roundabout to improve safety at key Richland intersections starts June 11 and will require commuters to use other routes.

The busy intersection at Swift Boulevard and Wright Avenue will be closed to all traffic once construction starts through the end of July, according to the city. A detour route will be marked for drivers, primarily directing them to Lee and Williams boulevards to get around the blocked intersection.

The city’s intersection safety improvement project is part of a citywide effort to enhance safety and improve traffic flow.

Additional improvements as part of this project include:

  • New signage, pavement markings and traffic control enhancements at Goethals Drive and Torbett Street and Wright Avenue and Lee Boulevard.
  • An advanced warning system at Kennedy Road and Duportail Street to alert drivers of stopped or turning vehicles, helping reduce congestion and potential accidents.
