Webinars scheduled for laid off federal workers to learn about state benefits, reemployment

LayoffClipboard.jpg

The effects of a mid-February layoff of hundreds of probationary federal employees in the region continue to be felt. The layoffs at the Bonneville Power Administration, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford field office occurred as a part of the Department of Government Efficiency’s efforts to cut down on government spending.

State employment security officials will cohost three free webinars beginning March 20 for federal workers who work and live in Washington state who have been laid off, are facing a furlough or expect a workforce reduction.

The first webinar will be from 10 a.m. to noon March 20, according to the state’s Employment Security Department. Registration is required.

Topics will include:

  • Unemployment benefits, how to file and any assistance needs.
  • What to do about health care benefits.
  • Expanding your job skills through training and educational programs.
  • Career guidance, job search assistance and other resources at no cost.

The other two webinars will also be from 10 a.m. to noon on April 30 (Register) and May 29 (Register)

The webinar series is a collaboration of state and local agencies and programs that support those who have lost jobs or are facing reduced work. Partners include Employment Security, WorkSource, local Workforce Development Boards, Washington Health Plan Finder, Washington State Community & Technical Colleges and Washington State Labor Council.
