Event Description

Community members are invited to bring worn or damaged U.S. flags for a respectful and proper retirement during a special ceremony this Flag Day, June 14.
American Legion Post 34, Port of Kennewick, city of Kennewick, Kennewick High School Jr. ROTC Color Guard, Kennewick Police Department and Kennewick Fire Department are running the event at 7:30 p.m. at the Regional Veterans Memorial in Columbia Park, 2502 Paul Parish Drive, Kennewick.
The event is held to show and share proper disposal of the American flag in a respectful manner. The ceremony will demonstrate the dignified disposal of colors by burning 13 worn or damaged U.S. flags. The remainder of any worn or damaged flags donated for retirement will be taken off site for proper disposal.
The American Legion will speak about the importance of and respect for the American flag, its traditions and customs, and Port of Kennewick Commission President Skip Novakovich will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
