Transportation projects for roundabouts, road widening, pedestrian safety and everything in between will benefit from $20.3 million in grants awarded by the Benton-Franklin Council of Governments. 

The council receives transportation funds via the federal government due to its role as a metropolitan planning organization for the region, such as the Surface Transportation Block Grants (STBG), according to a release. 

Fifteen projects will receive funding, just over half of those submitted for consideration. 

“STBG funding from BFCOG plays a huge role in helping our local communities get important transportation projects off the ground, especially the ones they just couldn’t afford on their own,” said Michelle Holt, executive director at BFCOG, in a statement. “It’s how sidewalks get built, intersections get safer and long-needed improvements finally happen.”  

The following projects will receive funds: 

Benton City 

• Babs-Seventh Street roundabout design. 

Benton County  

• Badger Road re-channelization and overlay. 

Franklin County  

• R-170 pavement rehabilitation. 

Kennewick  

• Columbia Center Boulevard widening, Quinault Avenue to Grandridge Boulevard. 
• East Columbia Park bike improvements. 
• Kellogg to Edison pedestrian pathway (KID right of way). 

Pasco  

• Interstate 182/Broadmoor Boulevard, multiuse pathway/bridge. 
• Road 76 overpass. 

Prosser 

• Alexander Court phase 2. 
• Byron Road improvements, west city limits to Sheridan Avenue. 

Richland 

• Gage Boulevard and Leslie Road intersection improvements. 
• Highway 240-Aaron Drive, complete streets improvements. 
• Systemic pedestrian crossing safety improvements. 

West Richland 

• Keene Road widening.
