Work is underway on a credit union’s first three Tri-Cities branches, set to open in late 2025 or early 2026.

Idaho Central Credit Union previously expanded to Spokane in 2022, and already it has almost 3,500 members in the Tri-Cities. It’s the 18th largest credit union in the nation, a press release said.

With 59 branches currently, the addition of the three Tri-Cities locations would bring the credit union’s total to 62.

ICCU president and CEO Brenda Worrell said the credit union is excited to come to the Tri-Cities. “By opening local branches, we will further enhance our current member experience while creating new opportunities for residents, nonprofits and businesses seeking a financial partner that will help them and their community thrive,” she said in a statement.

The credit union owns property at 3720 S. Zintel Way in Kennewick, 3180 Duportail St. in Richland and 7406 Three Rivers Drive in Pasco.

The 1.5-acre property in Kennewick has made the most progress so far. ICCU bought the land for $784,080 in February 2023, and permits have been issued for commercial construction, water meters, utilities, mechanical work and a wall sign.

The $12.4 million commercial construction permit is for a 4,895-square-foot credit union branch with a drive-thru.

Chervenell Construction Co. is the general contractor, and Lombard Conrad Architects, a Boise, Idaho-based firm, is the designer.

A $5.2 million permit is currently pending for the construction of a 4,979-square-foot branch at the Richland site. The credit union bought the 1.43-acre property at 3180 Duportail St. for $1 million in September 2023.

The 2-acre Pasco site has yet to see a building permit since ICCU bought it for $2.2 million in May 2023.

There are no special criteria to join the Idaho credit union. Potential members must live or work in the state.

The credit union was founded in 1940 and currently has more than $12 billion in assets, serving more than 670,000 customers in Idaho, Washington and eastern Oregon. The credit union offers personal and business banking, mortgage services, wealth management, insurance and more.
