Want advice from a 97-year-old?

How about tips for moose hunting?

Or maybe you’d like to hear some thoughts about being true to yourself or following your dreams?

The seniors living at a personal care facility in Canada have some thoughts to share on a variety of topics, and they are offering a unique way to connect with their wisdom and experience.

Just call their Life Advice Line at 204-788-8060. Once connected, listen to the menu of advice options.

Pick from the 10 prompts and “you’ll be treated to heartfelt, insightful guidance,” said Jennifer Taylor, director of long-term care at Misericordia Place, in a newsletter for residents’ families about the new hotline.

“Our residents have a wealth of knowledge and stories to tell, and this project offers a wonderful platform for them to share their perspectives with the wider community. They are so excited to pass on their wisdom,” she said.

Misericordia Place residents are often asked to share their lifetime of experience with younger generations, according to a news release from the Winnipeg facility about the hotline.

A trio of local artists recorded the seniors’ nuggets of wisdom for all to enjoy.

Their advice offers a hearty combination of funny, heartfelt and no-nonsense thoughts.

Tips to survive the brutally cold Winnipeg winters where the temperature averages 12 degrees? “If possible don’t be here. I’m serious. It’s so hard on everybody.”

Geraldine recounted some timeless fashion tips she received from a nun during her Catholic school days: “Don’t wear a sleeveless blouse. Men can look down your armpit.”

Press 0 to hear advice from Bill’s dad: “Don’t waste your time, don’t have a schoolyard fight. That doesn’t get you anywhere. Try and get a smile out of everybody. One a day. Make the world a better place. Pay your bills on time. Don’t overextend yourself. That’s basically it. It’s true.”
