Jeff Losey
The man who has led the Tri-Cities homebuilders organization for more than 20 years is embarking on a new chapter.
Jeff Losey, executive director of the Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities, is leaving the organization to take a role based in Washington, D.C. His last day is June 30.
Losey said he had not planned to leave HBATC but his new role with Association Headquarters, a nonprofit consultant, will allow him to live close enough to support extended family in the eastern U.S.
He leaves behind an extensive legacy with the homebuilding association, where he worked to support and advocate not just for the region’s homebuilders but also stepped into state- and national-level roles supporting the homebuilding industry.
“His impact on this organization, our members and the building industry has been significant both locally and beyond,” said Jen Schneider, chair of HBATC’s board, in a statement to the Journal. “Jeff has been tremendous in helping us through this transition, and we are grateful for the care and thoughtfulness he has shown as we prepare for this next chapter.”
Losey became involved with the association as a member in 2000 while at New York Life. He was elected to the board in 2004 and then stepped into the executive director role in 2005. He has guided the organization through the highs and lows of the region’s housing industry, helped homebuilders navigate complexities around local and state building codes and relayed concerns to state lawmakers.
That work led to other roles, including chair of the Building Industry Association of Washington and a stint as its interim executive officer, as well as serving as president of the National Association of Home Builders.
“His steady leadership, industry knowledge, relationships and willingness to step in and help when needed have all played a part in shaping the HBA into the strong organization it is today,” HBATC said in a message to its members.
Schneider said the board has formed a hiring committee to guide the search for its next executive director. She said she anticipates that future leader will not just bring a passion for the building industry, but also value relationships and collaboration with the board, staff and the association’s highly engaged membership.
“We believe the next executive director will have a tremendous opportunity to step into an organization with strong momentum and help shape what the future of housing and the building industry looks like in our region,” she said.
HBATC will hold a farewell reception for Losey from 2-4 p.m. June 25 at the association’s offices at 10001 W. Clearwater Ave. in Kennewick. Those planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP online.
