The longtime director of one of the Tri-Cities’ longest running performing arts groups is stepping down.
Justin Raffa has served as artistic director of Mid-Columbia Mastersingers for 19 years, the longest tenure for anyone in the role, according to a release. The coming 2026-27 performance season will be his last.
“The vision and values he instilled in Mid-Columbia Mastersingers will continue to live on through our members, our programs and the broader community he helped inspire,” said Emilia Keener, the Mastersingers’ board president, in a release. “As we prepare to celebrate our 40th anniversary season, we are deeply grateful for Justin’s extraordinary contributions and the enduring legacy he leaves for future generations.”
Raffa’s time with the organization included some major changes within the Mastersingers as well as other initiatives. The organization’s budget and staff grew along with its roster of singers, which reached more than 350 members. Its single ensemble has since become one of four and it merged with another established musical group, Columbia Chorale.
He also ensured the Mastersingers worked closely with others to grow and support the arts in the Tri-Cities. Along with artistic collaborations, Raffa helped create the partnership that puts on the annual Mid-Columbia Arts Fundraiser.
“The past 19 seasons as the artistic leader of this amazing organization have been the foundation and joy of my professional career,” Raffa said in a statement. “Change in life is inevitable and while my season with the MCM family is coming to a close, I will leave them with all affection and hope for every success in the future.”
