Scott Mitchell

President & CEO

HAPO Community Credit Union

What has been your/your company’s most significant success over the last 12 months?

We completed the acquisition of Community First Bank that allows us to offer a broader suite of financial products and deeper local financial services, while reinforcing our community commitment.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

You don’t get paid for effort – you get paid for results. The person who knows exactly what success looks like and focuses on that will outperform the hardest worker every time.

To whom or where do you go for sound business advice?

There are a handful people in my life that I ask for advice, and I think it is important that one person isn’t everything.

Name one thing about yourself you want people to know.

My biggest accomplishment, with the help of my wife, is raising daughters, now young adults, who are strong, kind and true to themselves.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?

My first job was a pharmaceutical sales rep.  I learned sales and business skills, effective communication and influence, relationship management, and discipline and personal effectiveness.

What is your favorite Tri-Cities restaurant and what do you order there?

Ice Harbor Brewery, fish and chips.

Is your company using AI in some capacity, and if so, how?

We are using AI in our Contact Center as well as Fraud and Risk Management.

What has you most excited about the future of your company or industry?

Advancements in banking technology but also providing personalized and human service.

If you had one wish for the Tri-Cities, what would it be?

I wish the Tri-Cities could figure out how to become one city and develop the riverfront at Columbia Park.
