Road work ahead: Drivers may want to avoid this intersection

A shot near the intersection at Columbia Center Boulevard and Quinault, Target can be seen nearby along with a lit construction sign that says "Expect Delays From".

The intersection at Columbia Center Boulevard and Quinault Avenue—shared by Target, Red Lion Hotel, Red Lobster, Bank of America and Men’s Wearhouse—will undergo an overhaul until November. City officials are urging drivers and pedestrians to use alternative routes whenever possible in order to avoid delays.

Heads up, commuters: The intersection at Columbia Center Boulevard and Quinault Avenue in Kennewick is about to get overhauled.

This is the busy intersection near Target, Red Lion Hotel, Red Lobster, Bank of America and Men’s Wearhouse.

Construction is scheduled to begin March 10 and continue through November.

The project includes a new left turn lane from Quinault onto Columbia Center; a dedicated through-lane and right turn lane for westbound traffic on Quinault; and an additional lane southbound on Columbia Center that will turn into the Red Lion parking lot.

New traffic signals, accessibility improvements, lighting, storm drains and curbs and gutters also will be completed. Benton PUD will move electrical line poles, Cascade Natural Gas will remove an above-ground metering station in the area, and water utilities will be moved.

Lane and sidewalk closures should be expected to accommodate equipment and worker safety, which will likely lead to temporary traffic and pedestrian delays or closures.

“The city recommends that alternative routes be used whenever possible in order to avoid delays,” according to a construction notice from the city.

Apollo Inc. is the general contractor for the project.
