Bellevue-based Anthony’s Restaurants announced the death of Budd Gould via its social media on July 7.
“Budd built Anthony’s with passion, heart, and an unwavering belief in people,” read the post. “He gave countless individuals the opportunity to learn, grow, lead, and succeed, and we’re proud to remain the same family-owned company he built with such care.”
Gould opened his first restaurant, a colonial-themed prime rib steakhouse then called Mad Anthony’s, in Bellevue in 1973. Since then, the chain has grown to 16 locations across Washington, Oregon and Idaho and the eatery’s are known for its fresh seafood as well as steak.
Anthony’s at Columbia Point in Richland opened in 2004.
Anthony’s has opened or acquired 10 other restaurants as well, including Budd’s Broiler, next door to Anthony’s, which opened in 2014. The restaurants are supplied by the company’s own seafood company and the brand also operates its own food truck known as Finn.
Gould stepped away from running the restaurant company 10 years ago, with his son Herb Gould taking over as president and CEO. Budd Gould’s daughter Amy Burns took the helm in 2023.
The Gould family has asked that those wanting to remember the founder to consider a donation to either their local Boys & Girls Clubs or local culinary arts programs.
