Volunteers got together July 28 to put together 1,400 spice kits for the Tri-Cities Food Bank.

Julia Hamrick, a 10-year Food Bank volunteer, came up with the idea to provide spices, which are often expensive and in short supply, alongside essential foods.

The spice kits include salt, pepper, cumin, cayenne, cinnamon, rosemary, oregano and thyme to bring flavor to everyday meals.

The Sunrise and Columbia Center rotary clubs donated $5,000 for the project, and C.G. Public House in Kennewick contributed the necessary cups and lids to package the kits.

Volunteers gathered July 28 at 9221 W. Clearwater Ave. in Kennewick to assemble the kits.
