TSA officers screen an average of nearly 2.5 million passengers each day at nearly 440 airports nationwide.

“At the Tri-Cities Airport, we know what it means to stay connected – to opportunity, to family, and to the places that matter most,” said Buck Taft, director of Tri-Cities Airport, in a statement. “Our airport is more than just a place to catch a flight – it’s a gateway that helps make our region a great place to live, work and play.”
Airport officials said TSA agents continue reporting to work to maintain security operations, despite missing paychecks, according to a release from the Tri-City Development Council (TRIDEC). Some are facing financial strain as they cover basic expenses.
“They are struggling to pay rent, cover bills, put gas in their cars and food on their tables,” Taft said.
The airport is asking residents and businesses to donate gas and grocery gift cards to assist the TSA agents serving the region. Donations will go directly to the agents and their families.
Gift cards can be dropped off at the Tri-Cities Business & Visitor Center, 7130 W. Grandridge Blvd., Kennewick, and at Tri-Cities Airport, 3601 N. 20th Ave., Pasco.
“Every contribution makes a difference,” said Karl Dye, president and CEO of TRIDEC, in a statement. “These agents continue to show up every day, helping travelers reach their destinations no matter the circumstances. This is our opportunity to support those who support us. The Tri-Cities has a long-standing tradition of coming together in times of need, and community leaders are hopeful that spirit will once again make a meaningful impact.”
