Three nonpartisan organizations are coming together for a candidate forum for voters in Washington’s 4th Congressional district to hear from the two candidates vying to represent them in Washington, D.C. 

AARP Washington, the League of Women Voters of Benton-Franklin Counties and Northwest Public Broadcasting will host the virtual forum from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 with Republican Amanda McKinney and Democrat John Duresky, who are seeking to fill the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Washington. 

“Voters deserve opportunities to hear directly from candidates about the issues that have a real impact on their daily lives,” said AARP Washington State Director Marguerite Ro. “For older adults and families across Central Washington, conversations about the future of Social Security, support for family caregivers and the rising cost of living are especially important. This forum will help voters better understand where candidates stand on these and other critical issues before they cast their ballots.” 

The forum will be livestreamed on Northwest Public Broadcasting’s YouTube channel and AARP Washington’s Facebook page.  It will also air on KTNW-TV before election day and will be posted in its entirety on AARP Washington’s webpage shortly after airing.  

It will be moderated by Matt Loveless, scholarly assistant professor of communication at Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. 

Voters are encouraged to help shape the conversation by submitting questions for consideration in advance of the forum.  

Questions can be submitted online, and will be reviewed in advance to help ensure the forum addresses a broad range of topics. Both candidates will be asked the same questions.
