Event Description

Celebrate 75 Years of the Richland Public Library: A Community Story 75 Years in the Making Join us as we celebrate 75 years of stories, connection, and community with a one-of-a-kind all ages anniversary event that transforms the library into a living timeline. Travel through the decades and experience the sights, sounds, and creativity that have shaped the library from its earliest days to today and beyond. Step back to the 1950s, where it all began, and enjoy a recreation of the library’s grand opening celebration with cookies, vintage photos, and the smooth sounds of jazz. Move into the 1960s for flower power fun featuring vintage games, groovy crafts, and colorful décor. In the 1970s, get hands-on with a community macramé project, make your own pet rock, and explore the history behind the library’s iconic brick mural. Then jump ahead to the 1980s and 1990s, where an arcade bus packed with retro arcade games on free play, gnarly crafts, zines, and free pizza bring the nostalgia to life. The 2000s invite families to revisit classic story times with Ms. Kelly, along with historic library drawing activities inspired by the era. In the 2010s, strike a pose in a photobooth, try your hand at decade-themed trend challenges, and enjoy creative activities for all ages. Head out to The Lawn for the 2020s and beyond, where imagination takes center stage. Build and play with Big Blue Blocks, create cardboard constructions, and help design the library of the future. To wrap it all up, don't miss the debut of a commemorative film celebrating the history, impact, and community stories that have shaped the library over the past 75 years. Whether you’re reminiscing about the past or dreaming about what’s ahead, this celebration offers something for everyone. Come explore, create, and celebrate 75 incredible years of the Richland Public Library.
