Black Diamond 4x4: New local source for after-market parts; installation

‘Trick ‘em out’ is a slogan used by 4x4 enthusiasts across the United States. But for the past few years, Mid-Columbia residents haven’t had a ready source for the after-market lift kits, bumpers, tires, suspension, body armor and other accessories popular for customizing their 4x4s, according to Makaila Holstein, manager of the new Black Diamond 4x4 parts.

“It’s been a few years since the last store in the Tri-Cities area specializing in four-wheel-drives closed down. Sure, you can buy accessories from the Internet but then you have the extra expense of shipping and the time involved to get it here,” she said.

“Our goal is to get anything you want or need in two days,” Holstein said, though some parts can take up to four days.

Mike and Angie Holstein, who own MH Construction in Kennewick, own Black Diamond 4x4 and the building it is located in at 4207 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick. The store is full-service, offering parts, as well as fabrication and installation services.

Black Diamond carries a variety of axles, towing and recovery equipment and will work on any make of four-wheel-drive vehicle, including “rock crawlers and trail blazers,” with the exception of dirt bikes and ATVs.

The shop will have two employees—Mikaila Holstein and Brian Barcum, who’s been in the business of customizing four-wheel-drive vehicles for 18 years.

Mikaila Holstein said 4x4s are becoming more and more popular with moms who are replacing their vehicles with more rugged rigs. There’s also something for those who aren’t as well versed in 4x4s.

“I’ve been into four-wheelers since I was a kid. We want to be a place where women can come in, maybe buy a gift for their fathers or husbands and not feel like they’re out of place or being talked down to because they don’t know about the sport,” Mikaila Holstein said.

“This is a place where anyone can come in, ask questions and go away without feeling they’ve been shunted aside,” Barcum said.

The shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The shop’s business phone is 509-579-0440. Find them on Facebook, or at blackdiamond4x4.com.
