The Kennewick, Prosser and Finley school districts face significant budget challenges after voters appeared to reject Feb. 8 ballot requests to renew the local property tax levies that supplement state funding to pay for basics such as building maintenance and educational programs.

The districts could  hold another election this year to give voters another chance to support them.

Voters in Pasco, Richland, Prosser, Kahlotus and North Franklin school districts approved levy requests in the election, which saw a turnout of about 30% in Benton County and 25% in Franklin, according to unofficial results.

Kennewick voters were approving a second levy to support technology.

The election results will be certified on Feb. 18.

  • Finley operations levy: NO, 370 to 365 (50.34% to 49.66%).
  • Kennewick operations levy: NO, 7,813 to 8,145 (51.04% to 48.96%).

  • Prosser operations levy: NO, 1,142 to 976 (53.92% to 46.08%).
  • Richland operations levy: YES, 8,782 to 7,475 (54.02% to 45.98%).
