A new senior living community with a variety of apartment sizes, plus amenities from a movie theater to a day spa, is set to open in June in the Southridge area of Kennewick.

Riverwalk Estates at 4704 W. Hildebrand Blvd. is billed as “gracious senior living.”

Moving into the community “is a lifestyle choice. You get to retire with grace,” said Diana Fields, Riverwalk Estates’ pre-rental manager. “What I’ve noticed in other (similar) communities I’ve been a part of is that our residents (seem to) get younger instead of older because they have a purpose. They’re active. They’re doing things.”

Hawthorn Construction Group, the construction arm of the Vancouver, Washington-based Hawthorn Senior Living, is the general contractor.

The price tag for the four-story, 149,000-square-foot facility is estimated at $32 million to $35 million.

Riverwalk Estates is the first Hawthorn facility in the Tri-Cities. The company also has senior living communities in Vancouver and Puyallup, plus in numerous states nationwide.

Riverwalk Estates is accepting deposits for apartments. Rates start at $2,995 a month and are all-inclusive, with meals, utilities and similar costs factored in.

The facility has 149 apartments ranging from studios to one- and two-bedroom units with varying floor plans. Amenities include a gym, activity room, library, movie theater and day spa for hair and nail appointments. A home health agency will have an office on site.

Riverwalk Estates has about 40 employees lined up, from housekeeping to maintenance staff. The facility still is hiring for some positions, including some chef slots.

What makes the place stand out “is our hearts,” Fields said. “We all believe that we can’t go wrong by doing the right things. We always try to do right by our residents.”

Riverwalk Estates is expected to open toward the end of June.
