ATI has doubled the capacity of its Richland Operations building at 3101 Kingsgate Way.

The expansion increases the company’s production of aerospace and defense-grade titanium by about 35% over the 2022 baseline levels to meet titanium demand. The new capacity will supply aero-engine, airframe and defense customers, including those served by ATI’s long-term commitments.

The expansion adds a second electron beam hearth furnace to create titanium ingots and vacuum arc remelting capability to support major original equipment manufacturer applications requiring a two-melt process to improve forgeability.

The project included two new buildings:

Building G, which has 7,500 square feet, is primarily a single-story production building that features multiple electrical and mechanical support rooms for each melt process, a small control room, and managers’ offices on the second floor. There are two complex deep pits up to 35 feet deep along with multiple equipment foundations, seven bridge cranes and concrete walls up to 2 feet thick to support equipment.

Building E, which has 11,500 square feet, is a single-story maintenance shop with a small storage mezzanine above the employee break room, restrooms and managers’ office areas.

The project was substantially completed in late 2024 with equipment in operation in early 2025.

Total building and site improvements cost just under $40 million.

ATI is a global producer of high performance materials and solutions for the global aerospace and defense markets and critical applications in electronics, medical and specialty energy.

Fisher Construction Group Inc. of Burlington is the general contractor and architect for this design-build project. It performed all architectural, civil and structural design with in-house personnel. MSI Engineers handled the plumbing and HVAC, and OS Engineering designed the electrical in-house for Olsson & Garrett. This project also allowed Fisher Construction Group to highlight its self-performing field crews as well as mass grading, site underground and utilities, structural and site concrete, metal panel and roofing installation.
