Want to know when you’re allowed to set off fireworks this Fourth of July? Richland, Kennewick, Pasco and West Richland are teaming up to educate residents on safe and legal firework usage during holiday celebrations.

While firework regulations vary slightly between jurisdictions, the four cities are partnering on a “Know Before You Glow” campaign to encourage citizens to understand their local rules, focus on safety, and be considerate of their neighbors and community.

For Kennewick, Richland and Pasco, legal times to set off fireworks are: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. June 28; 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 29 through July 3; 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. July 4; and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 5.

For West Richland, fireworks can be set off from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 2 and 3 and 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. July 4.

Throughout June and early July, the cities will share safety tips, courtesy reminders and responsible disposal practices on their social media.

Key safety reminders include:

  • Use only legal consumer fireworks.
  • Follow all manufacturer instructions.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
  • Never relight malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Soak used fireworks before disposal.
  • Be mindful of neighbors, pets, veterans and others who may be sensitive to fireworks.
