Washington employers now have access to a new online ergonomics training app focused on ensuring workers avoid injury whether they stock shelves or change oil.
ErgoApp was developed by the University of Washington with a grant from the state Department of Labor & Industries Safety and Health Investment Projects grant program, according to a release. It offers short training modules that workers can review at their own pace to ensure they are practicing and using property lifting postures and techniques.
Back injuries remain one of the most common and costly workplace injuries across industries ranging from retail, warehousing, distribution and automotive businesses, according to the Washington Retail Association. The association encourages employers to consider integrating the app into their enterprise’s ongoing safety program, new employee onboarding, refresher training, or injury prevention efforts.
“Helping employees recognize ergonomic risks before injuries occur benefits everyone,” the association said in a statement. “Fewer injuries can lead to improved productivity, reduced claims costs, and a safer workplace culture.”
ErgoApp can be found in the Apple and Google app stores. Learn more: https://waworksafe.org/#ergoapp
