The city of Connell will receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in financing from the state to repair its wastewater treatment lagoons and prevent environmental contamination. 

The state’s Public Works Board recently announced it would provide a $612,000 loan and $108,000 grant for the project. It was one of seven projects awarded a total of $7.45 million for emergency repairs, with most of that money going to western Washington communities affected by the December 2025 floods. 

Connell’s lagoon systems embankments, protective slopes and related infrastructure have experienced significant erosion and deterioration and pose a threat to public health and safety, according to the Public Works Board’s release. 

The loan and grant will allow the city to make repairs, keeping essential wastewater treatment services online and preventing untreated wastewater from possibly entering the environment.
