The Pasco School District is considering naming Pasco High School’s main gym after a former coach and is seeking community members to help with the process.

The Facility Naming Committee will review factual information and consider stakeholder input in evaluating a request to name the facility after Don Monson, who coached basketball at Pasco High from 1967-76.

Beyond recording a 161-65 record and leading the Bulldogs to regional and state tournament appearances, Monson coached at Michigan State University, the University of Idaho and the University of Oregon and received numerous state, regional and national coaching honors.

The committee is expected to meet about two to three times between September and November 2026 in the Pasco High School Library. Applicants will be selected to represent the following groups:

  • Current Pasco High staff.
  • Current Pasco High student-athletes.
  • Current Pasco High students who do not participate in athletics.
  • Parents or guardians of current Pasco High students.
  • Pasco High alumni.
  • Retired Pasco School District employees.
  • Local historians.
  • At-large community representatives.

Applications are available in English, Spanish and Russian and must be submitted by the end of the day on Sept. 23.
