Port seeks land that would double size of industrial park

The Port of Pasco wants to buy 320 acres of land adjacent to its Reimann Industrial Center to accommodate higher than anticipated demand for lots at the industrial park.

Port commissioners unanimously approved directing Executive Director Adam Lincoln to pursue a purchase and sale agreement with Balcom & Moe Inc., a Pasco-based agriculture company, for the land during a Sept. 29 special commissioners’ meeting.

Commissioners also discussed a minimum purchase price in a closed-door session.

“In just six years, the port has sold 150 acres to Darigold and has another 82 acres under contract or actively under negotiations,” according to a port memo to commissioners.

None of the parties have agreed to the purchase yet. Terms of a multi-step purchase and sale agreement are being developed.

The deal is two years in the making, with extensive negotiations between the port and Balcom & Moe, which sold the original 300 acres at Reimann to the port in 2019.

Port officials told commissioners more land is needed as interest at Reimann far exceeded original expectations of a 15- to 20-year build-out.

Darigold logistics partner LTI Inc. and Cold Summit, a cold storage provider, also have plans to develop facilities at Reimann.
