One of three Starbucks serving a busy Kennewick shopping district has closed as the company restructures to get its costs in check.

The Starbucks at 6607 W. Canal Drive in The Colonnade shopping center closed its doors on Sept. 27, according to media reports. The location is also listed as closed on Google Maps and is no longer included in the list of Starbucks locations in the Starbucks app. It had been open since October 2007.

Starbucks recently announced it would close 100 company-operated stores nationwide as well as lay off about 900 staff working in corporate roles.

CEO Brian Niccol said in a statement the decisions were in pursuit of the company’s Back to Starbucks plan aimed at improving the customer experience and growing the business.

“Each year, we open and close coffeehouses for a variety of reasons, from financial performance to lease expirations,” he said in the statement. “This is a more significant action that we understand will impact partners and customers. Our coffeehouses are centers of the community, and closing any location is difficult.”

Workers at closing Starbucks locations may be offered transfers to other locations. The company also is providing severance packages to those who aren’t able to find a role at another location.

Two other Starbucks currently operate in the Columbia Center area, at 1659 N. Columbia Center Blvd. in the parking lot of Columbia Center mall and another at 7600 W. Clearwater Ave.

There are now nine standalone Starbucks locations in the Tri-Cities, with multiple others co-located in other retailers.

The Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room at 1124 Pike St. in the Capital Hill neighborhood of Seattle also closed after operating in the 1920s-era building since 2014.
