Wondering how the state’s new sales tax rules will affect your business? The state has rolled out guidance documents to help, at least for now.
The state Department of Revenue recently released interim guidance statements to assist businesses with the implementation of ESSB 5814, which makes changes to retail sales tax beginning Oct. 1.
The latest interim guidance addresses how businesses should manage tax collection and reporting for contracts established before Oct. 1. Additional updates will be shared in the months ahead to support businesses in understanding and preparing for these tax changes.
State officials have not indicated when permanent rules for the tax changes will be available.
Conservative tax policy think tank Washington Research Council has released its own summary of highlights of the latest guidance available at https://researchcouncil.org/the-perils-of-rushing-tax-policy-a-legal-challenge-to-essb-5814-and-interim-guidance-for-taxpayers.
