No, it’s not just you thinking your phone and internet bills are getting out of hand.
Washington state has the highest average combined cost for internet and phone bills in the country at $1,618 annually per person.
That’s according to rankings released by electricity power broker Power Choice Texas which used data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The Washington state bills break down to $751 for internet and $867 for phone services. With median earnings of $59,920, Washingtonians sacrifice 2.7% of their income simply to maintain connectivity, making it the second-highest percentage nationwide, according to the report.
Meanwhile in neighboring Oregon, residents pay an average of $423 annually for phone and internet. Idaho has the lowest costs at $379 annually.
“These statistics reveal shocking differences in what Americans pay to stay connected across different states,” said Matt Oberle, chief operations officer for Power Choice Texas, in a statement. “The average Washington resident pays over four times what someone in Idaho pays annually for the same essential services. This creates real financial pressure in states with high connectivity costs.”
