The Yakima Valley hasn’t experienced four consecutive years of drought since record-keeping began in the late 19th century. That could change this year, as the window closes for snowpack to build across the Cascades.

A Kennewick-based development company is suing the city of Sunnyside, alleging breach of contract over a housing project on Outlook Road. 

The early shutoff has implications for the late harvest crops of the Roza Irrigation District. About two-thirds of the district’s crops, such as apples and wine grapes, are harvested after Sept. 15.
