The Port of Kennewick completed phase one of the Vista Field Southern Gateway project on June 30 at 6708 W. Deschutes Ave. in Kennewick.

The $3.05 million project transformed two airplane hangars into 4,500-square-foot open-air pavilions and added two 412-square-foot bathroom buildings and a 3,200-square-foot courtyard with a stage.

Interior updates include bird netting, lighting, new paint, electrical panels and bathrooms.

Exterior features include misters, a stainless steel airplane monument, metal planter boxes, educational panels and reused 1942 runway decking.

The pavilions will be available for public events once parking is completed.

The general contractor was Goodman & Mehlenbacher Enterprises Inc., or GAME Inc., of Kennewick.

CKJT Architects of Kennewick was the architect.
