The rooster will finally crow on June 19 when the Tri-Cities’ first Chick-fil-A restaurant opens for business.

The popular Southern-flavored chicken fast food chain opened at 7009 W. Canal Drive in Kennewick at 6:30 a.m., according to a release. The new restaurant near Hobby Lobby has two drive-thru lanes and also will offer dine-in, carry-out and mobile pickup service.

A building permit for the $1.1 million project was requested a year ago and issued in November for the 10,000-square-foot restaurant.

Restaurant hours are 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.

The restaurant is expected to create up to 130 jobs.

“As a longtime member of the Tri-Cities community, it’s an honor to open Kennewick’s first Chick-fil-A restaurant,” said Dawn Hodges, the restaurant’s local owner-operator, in a statement. “My goal is to create a place where families feel at home, team members are supported and valued, and every guest experiences genuine care and excellent food – all while uplifting our community.”

A West Point graduate and Army veteran, Hodges has lived in the Tri-Cities for the past 12 years. She said she is passionate about fostering growth in young people.

Kennewick police anticipate heavy traffic in the area with the grand opening and have released a map to mitigate traffic concerns.

“KPD will have extra officers in the area to help with traffic. If you see officers directing traffic, please follow their signals. Everyone following the attached traffic flow map in and out of the parking lot will help you get your Chick-fil-A faster, minimize issues to surrounding businesses and increase safety for all,” the department said on social media.

Chick-fil-A is the third largest quick-service restaurant company in the United States, perhaps best known for its fan favorite, the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich.

Chick-fil-A celebrated the opening by participating in several community-oriented efforts:

  • The Kennewick restaurant will be part of the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, which redirects surplus food to local nonprofits and has helped to create over 35 million meals to date.
  • The company will make a $25,000 donation to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts.
  • 100 local heroes making an impact in the Tri-Cities area will be given free Chick-fil-A entrees for a year.
