The next two weeks could be rough for commuters who use the southern end of George Washington Way in Richland.

City officials said drivers should be prepared for delays and find alternative routes as it works to wrap up its South George Washington Way Improvements Project. Lane and road closures along with overnight road work will be necessary until the end of November to support signal upgrades, pavement patching and lane alignment as part of this multiphase project.

Here’s what drivers can expect beginning Nov. 19:

  • Periodic northbound right lane closures will occur each day, starting at 9 a.m. or later.
  • All-day closures on Nov. 19 for the George Washington Way northbound left turn lane to Aaron Drive and George Washington Way southbound far left through lane closed south of the intersection with Aaron Drive.
  • Overnight work from 9 p.m. Nov. 19 to 5 a.m. Nov. 20, with the intersection of George Washington Way and Columbia Point Drive controlled by flaggers.
  • All-day closures on Nov. 21 and Nov. 24-26 for the southbound lanes of George Washington Way near Aaron Drive.
  • Closure of Columbia Point Drive at George Washington Way beginning Nov. 26, including left turn lane from southbound George Washington Way. A detour will be available via Comstock Street and Bradley Boulevard.
