Report: Tourism to inject $6.3M into Tri-Cities economy in June

CBRC-Pickleball

Richland’s biggest gym recently turned two outdoor clay tennis courts – first built in 1996 – into six hard surface pickleball/tennis courts to accommodate the growing demand for pickleball. Other improvements also are in the works.

From cornhole and pickleball tournaments to family-friendly events around the World Cup and card, coin and comics collecting, thousands of visitors are expected to visit the Tri-Cities this month, driving business to hotels, restaurants and retailers.

Visit Tri-Cities estimates that the more than 30 events taking place in June will bring $6.3 million in visitor spending to the region, according to a release.

“Every event has an impact,” Kevin Lewis, president and CEO of Visit Tri-Cities, said in a statement. “Visitors stay in our hotels, dine in local restaurants, shop at local businesses and experience the Tri-Cities. The money they spend while here flows throughout our communities’ supporting jobs, generating business revenue, and contributing to the broader local economy.”

The weekend of June 19-21 alone is expected to generate $1.7 million in visitor spending alone:

  • A free watch party of the 10 a.m. June 19 match of the U.S. against Australia, along with vendors and other entertainers, at Pasco’s SeattleFWC26 Fan Zone at the Pasco Sporting Complex.
  • The nationally-televised American Cornhole League Tri-Cities Open tournament at the HAPO Center in Pasco.
  • The Club 509 Pickleball Summer Classic at Columbia Basin Racquet Club in Richland.
  • The PNW Collector Convention at Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick
