Cool Desert Nights - cars.jpeg

Cool Desert Nights is returning to its roots. The popular classic car event will cruise through Richland from June 21-22, following a challenging few years that included Covid-19 and more than one sponsorship change.

Spending time in Richland this weekend? Keep in mind the temporary road and river closures in place during Cool Desert Nights and the Richland Regatta.

The events are expected to attract thousands of attendees to Richland’s waterfront, parks and downtown areas this weekend and visitors should plan on increased traffic and temporary road restrictions.

Cool Desert Nights begins at 5:30 p.m. June 26 with Party in the Park at John Dam Plaza, followed by a car cruise from 6-7 p.m. and a free live concert in John Dam Plaza. Several road closures will be in place from 5:30-7:30 p.m.:

  • George Washington Way between Knight Street and Symons Street.
  • Swift Boulevard between George Washington Way and Jadwin Avenue.
  • Jadwin Avenue between Swift Boulevard and Knight Street.
  • Knight Street between Jadwin Avenue and George Washington Way.

A section of Jadwin Avenue between Mansfield Street and Knight Street will remain closed for the duration of the concert at John Dam Plaza, until about 9 p.m.

Drivers should plan for delays and take alternate routes when possible.

Several closures also will be in place along the waterfront as the Richland Regatta takes place. The event includes hydroplane racing, food vendors, family activities and spectator viewing opportunities from June 27-28.

Riverfront trail users should expect detours near Howard Amon Park and designated viewing areas, with signs and event staff to direct pedestrians and cyclists.

The Columbia River racecourse area will also be closed to recreational river traffic from about 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.
