Washington’s official investment education savings plan has seen strong growth in the last year, demonstrating an increased demand by families to save for their childrens’ education and career goals.
In the first six months of 2026, WA529 Invest had a 93% year-over-year increase in new accounts, and contributions increased 108% compared to 2025. As of June 30, the program serves more than 31,500 students and families.
The growth comes one year after the program freshened up its branding and made improvements to outreach efforts.
WA529 Invest is a 529 plan that provides tax-advantaged savings to help families prepare for future education expenses, from tuition to books and more. The plan can support college, trade school or career training programs. Investment earnings grow tax-deferred and qualified withdrawals are federal tax-free.
The program also allows friends or family to add to a child’s education savings through a gifting platform.
