A former Benton County Superior Court judge and a prominent financial advisor and attorney have found new roles in the Washington Attorney General’s Office after relocating to the west side of the Cascade Mountains.

Diana Ruff

Diana Ruff, who stepped down from the bench earlier this year, has been named managing assistant attorney general in the Environmental Protection Division. She will oversee attorneys investigating and prosecuting violations of state environmental laws.

Her husband, Beau Ruff, is an assistant attorney general in the Revenue and Finance Division, where he provides legal advice and counsel to the Washington State Investment Board.

He is a licensed attorney and certified financial planner who most recently served as director of planning at Kennewick-based Cornerstone Wealth Strategies. He was also a columnist for the Journal and a 2026 Person of Influence.

“They are strong additions to the (Attorney General’s Office) and our agency is glad they have both chosen public service on behalf of the people of Washington,” according to a statement from the attorney general’s office.

Attorney General Nick Brown’s office employs nearly 800 attorneys across the state to serve roughly 200 state agencies, boards, commissions, colleges, and universities, as well as the governor and Legislature.
