In just a few years, a local engineering firm has seen a burst of growth, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

Jack Gourley, president and CEO of G6 Engineering, founded the company as a one-man operation in 2019.

A licensed professional engineer in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and California with more than 25 years of experience in all areas of engineering, Gourley had worked for several firms before starting his own business. 

Patty Gourley, administrator for G6 and Jack Gourley’s mother, said he had seen how large companies could take a long time and get caught up in lots of paperwork, and he felt he could serve customers better with his own company. 

“He’s kind of a mover and a shaker,” she said. 

It’s been a successful venture, with constant demand and return customers, Patty Gourley said. 

“It has grown just overwhelmingly,” she said, starting with one person and building up to the more than 15 staff the company has today, with nine engineers, four design drafters, two administrators and a shop manager. 

After starting in one small office location, G6 moved to a flex space on Tapteal Drive in Richland, and it wasn’t long before the company expanded to occupy two, then three of the spaces. 

It’s been a learning process for everyone, Patty Gourley said, as the team works to ensure quality and standardization while fitting the needs of the customer. New employees have come in with a specific expertise and Jack Gourley has been able to train them in multiple aspects of engineering. 

And the company is continuing to expand, Patty Gourley said, with a need to bring on more engineers as well as administrators. 

Hands-on engineering

G6 Engineering sets itself apart from other companies by being involved in the work from beginning to end. Jack Gourley in particular “has a passion for this work, he is hands-on” with every project, Patty Gourley said. 

“Lots of times (engineering companies) provide the engineering drawings for a project, then it’s handed off to other contractors,” she said. 

G6 sees projects through from consultations to development to operation. 

The company’s specialty is in industrial, automation and electrical work, with focuses on the food and beverage industry, manufacturing and agricultural projects. 

The company has its own shop where employees engineer, program and build control panels. 

Most of their work is within a few hours of the Tri-Cities, often even within 30 minutes of the area, Patty Gourley said, and one engineer is based in Boise, Idaho. 

G6 has done lots of automation work in the potato industry, including for Lamb Weston, and the company has also worked on farms with a whole control system through radio towers and receivers.

Currently, G6 is working on a 12,369-square-foot building with an office and shops at 460 N. Roosevelt St., Kennewick, near Vista Field. A permit for the $2.5 million commercial building, which is set to be an office and shops, was filed with the city of Kennewick in May. Jack Gourley was listed as both the owner and the contractor for the building. The roughly 3-acre property, owned by Pacific Crest Development LLC, was purchased in November 2025 for $1.2 million.
