Those looking to travel to Southern California soon will have yet another route to choose from, thanks to one of the Tri-Cities Airport’s current airlines. 

For the first time in more than four years, the Tri-Cities Airport saw year-over-year decline in passengers leaving its gates in September, a potential side effect of the year’s economic instability and turmoil in the federal government.

The Tri-Cities Airport wants to make it easier for visitors dropping off and picking up passengers to find parking and that means the prime parking spots are about to get pricier. 

Richland city officials say the “significant traffic impacts” are part of ongoing improvements at this busy intersection. The work is necessary so new traffic signaling infrastructure can be installed. 

The Tri-Cities Airport will see flight disruptions as federal aviation authorities curtail flights to ease the strain on unpaid air traffic controllers and maintain safety, but what those disruptions will look like is not yet known. 

Just months before the first airline to establish air service between Pasco and Burbank, California, ceased operations at the Tri-Cities Airport, another has started offering its own flights to the Southern California destination. 

The final phases of construction on the Dallas Road roundabouts in Richland will start this week before resuming in the spring. Detours will be in place. 

State transportation officials say they are making the limited dollars for highway and bridge preservation stretch as far as they can — but it’s not far enough.
