The city of Richland has received an award for excellence in financial reporting and budgeting for its fiscal year 2024.

The city received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Triple Crown Award for 2024, recognizing the city for earning all three of the organization’s awards during the same fiscal year:

  • Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
  • Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The awards respectively recognize governments that produce annual financial reports above and beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles; governments that present financial information in a format that’s accessible and understandable to the public and budget documents that serve as effective policy as well as financial operational and communication tools.

Richland was one of 441 governments across North America to receive this recognition for 2024.

The city has also received GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2026 budget document.

“Our residents expect responsible financial management, and this recognition demonstrates our commitment to meeting that expectation,” said Jon Amundson, city manager, in a statement. “These awards are a testament to the professionalism and expertise of our Finance Department and the City's dedication to sound fiscal practices.”
