Costco intends to open its Richland warehouse on Aug. 8, pending a certificate of occupancy, according to the city of Richland. There is still work to be performed before it can be issued, the city said in early July.
In response to a request for more information, Costco representatives said there are no further details to share at this time. However, the Richland Costco and the Aug. 8 opening date can now be found using the “Find a Warehouse” search bar on Costco’s website.
The 3125 Queensgate Drive location is also highlighted on Costco’s job application page under the header “Grand Openings.”
The webpage notes that Costco is “always looking for qualified people as we open new locations,” but that the jobs listed are not necessarily available positions, merely examples of the kinds of positions Costco may hire for when openings exist.
Both Snagajob and ZipRecruiter list several job openings at the Richland location, from cashiers to forklift drivers and bakers to tire installers.
Construction on the new warehouse has been underway since late 2024, when Costco signed a lease with the state Department of Natural Resources. The building permit to construct the 182,644-square-foot building was valued at $24.6 million.
Community excitement over the new Costco opening is tempered by concern about increased traffic in the area.
The city of Richland has plans to mitigate the increasing traffic in the area, with work set to begin in 2026.
Among the improvements are roundabouts at the intersection of Kennedy Road and Duportail Street as well as at Vintner Square Driveway and Duportail, and additional turn lanes at Queensgate and Duportail.
Costco also recently launched new benefits for its executive members, including extended hours.
The company launched new early hours for its executive members, effective June 30.
Executive members will now be able to shop at their local warehouse, including the one in Kennewick, starting at 9 a.m. The warehouse opens to other members at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and Sunday, and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
June 30 also marked the start of a new $10 monthly credit for executive members on SameDay.Costco.com or Costco via Instacart for eligible orders of more than $150.
Executive members get additional value on various Costco services, including life insurance, auto insurance and travel benefits. New to that list is pet insurance, Costco auto program, and moving and storage from PODS.
Costco’s executive membership costs $130 per year, while a gold star membership costs $65 per year.
