Walls are being knocked down at Benton County’s juvenile justice center to begin the first substantial renovation in roughly 30 years.

Efforts to curb housing costs in Washington state are falling short of helping even those living in state-funded housing units as the availability of homes, inflation and other factors continue to squeeze renters. 

“Inching up to just shy of 7%, mortgage rates reached their highest point in nearly six months,” said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist.
